Let’s Do it Baby Cakes!

The story of my labor is the following:

Once I reached my due date, Dr. Martin wanted to induce me; however, he missed out twice on my appointments due to other woman in his office giving birth. So during my last visit he scheduled me to be induced on Thursday evening. Believe me I was not looking forward to it. See… I have a sister in law, Divina and she is a Labor and Delivery Nurse and she took it upon herself to inform me that induction is very painful and long. So believe me I was walking, squatting and even “putting out” to say the least. Yet, Gabriella had plans of her own. Here is the timeline of the events:

3am - (Thursday morning) Contractions woke me up and they were a lot more intense.

3:45am - Woke up Jorge (husband) and had him time my contractions as I worked on my breathing.

5:30am - Decided it was time to go to Memorial Miramar.

6am - Registered and was admitted.

7am - I was effaced 80% and had dilated to 2cm, Pitocin was started on me.

9am - Completely effaced, dilated to 4cm, Dr. Martin came in and said “Let’s Do this ‘Baby Cakes’” and broke my water… got the epidural…

Slept….

1:15pm - Began to push

1:36pm - Gabriella Renee Sierra was born.

I was thankful that my labor was quick and relatively painless; also that Gabby was only 6 pounds and 7ozs. Thanks to my nurse and my hyperactive doctor for all their help. The stay at Memorial Miramar was excellent as well.
